KEBODIA is a community-driven member organisation which seeks to provide a vibrant port of call for Kenyans residing in Botswana.
KEBODIA was first registered in Botswana on May 18th 2016. The first Chairman of KEBODIA Dr Nelson Mwaniki and the then Kenyan High Commissioner, Ambassador Jean Kimani, set the ball rolling andrekindled the unity of Kenyans in Botswana. Two years later, on 17th March 2018, the association held its first general elections, where Mr. Tom Ochieng Atonga, was elected unopposed to lead the association. Mr Atonga’s team included Mr. Jackson Nyangechi, Mr Ronald Changwony, Mrs. Sarah Aseda and Ms.Ivyn Wachuka. The team workeddiligently anddelivered to Kenyans one of the most effective group insurance schemes. Theteam is alsocredited for beingproactive even during the Covid-19 Pandemic where they mobilised Kenyans to assist each other and alsomade a significant contribution to the Botswana Government covid relief fund. The group also initiated the KEBODIA Sacco and also engaged Kenyans in several social welfare activities such as blood donations, family fun days, prayer meetings and even bicycle charity races.
The second KEBODIA elections happened on 17th July 2022 where Mr. Tom Ochieng Atonga, was re-elected with an overwhelming majority as chairman alongside Mr. Joseph Gitau( Vice Chairman) Mr. Jackson Nyangechi (Treasurer) Ms. Rose Anne Owano (Secretary) Mr. Kefa Mogire Okioma (Vice Secretary)Mr. Michael Dinga (Member) and Ms. Pauline Maiyo (Member). The team has started work in earnest and has now resuscitated the KEBODIA SACCO which stalled due to Covid 19. The new office works closely with the current Ambassador to Botswana, HE Amb. Mohammed Shidiye and have so far helped Kenyans make new generation passport applications at the embassy, enabled Kenyans in Botswana to vote in South Africa and influenced the free visa entry into South Africa.
KEBODIA continues to be vibrant and would like to collaborate with other progressive Kenyan associations in the diaspora to better the welfare of all Kenyans who live and work outside of Kenya. Currently, the chairman of KEBODIA, Mr Tom Atonga is the treasurer of Diaspora County 48, an association of Kenyans who live and work outside Kenya in countries such as the UK, USA, Australia,South Africa, Canada, Germany, France, UAE, Rwanda,Tanzania,Uganda and many more. KEBODIA will continue to be a model diaspora association and an exemplar for good diaspora unity, welfare and development.
